Still active, Mayon is famous for its once-perfect cone that rivals Mount Fuji in Japan. The images are from my personal collection of vintage tourist postcards. They were specifically selected to show the physical changes of the volcano and its surroundings through a span of some 50 years. I created twelve image transfers similar to Polaroid emulsion lifts with the characteristic folds and wrinkles. The inkjet pigment prints were transferred with an acrylic based solution onto antique Philippine woven silk cloth and mounted onto Arches watercolor paper. The cover of the book is made from the remnants of a woven green mat, with a closure of capiz and cowrie shells and string. |
