IMAGE TRANSFERS: I developed my workshops in order to share my favorite techniques and tips in transferring images onto paper, fabric, metal, wood, glass, plastic, even leaves. My students include painters and fine artists, printmakers, hobbyists, photographers, book artists and fabric artists. I emphasize non-toxic transfers when working on both toner photocopies or inkjet prints. Popular techniques include tape transfers, transparency transfers with acrylic mediums, Lazertran waterslide decals, release papers, InkAid coatings and other transfer mediums. Full-day classes are 7 hours; half-day classes are 4-1/2 hours. All transfer images and mediums, release papers and sample substrates along with a reference handout and list of resources are included in the class fees.

Learn how to tell personal stories through creative collage techniques. You will use your own favorite photographs, personal mementos or treasured images of loved ones as the focal point in several collage exercises. I will demonstrate various ways of starting a collage, preparing backgrounds & surfaces, arranging imagery & text, while building layers of color & transparency. Using my artwork as examples, we will review some basic image transfer techniques, elements of design & color theory. You will learn how to prepare papers & substrates, what glues & adhesives to use, how to transfer images, and how acrylic mediums & paints for glazing & painterly effects can enhance your artwork. Together, we will explore collage composition, storytelling, and using found objects & personal histories while we experiment with creative mixed-media techniques. You will leave with finished artwork, a handout of collage tips, a list of books, resources and links to help jumpstart your personal vision. |

A Polaroid emulsion transfer, also known as an emulsion lift, is an alternative photographic process that results in unique interpretations of your favorite images. This art form with its roots in instant photography has grown into a mixed media transfer technique. Thin, filmy, transparent photographs are distorted and manipulated, even stretched and painted over, to create layers of distinctive imagery. You will learn to use a Daylab slide printer and a Daylab CopySystem Pro to scan and transfer Polaroid pack film prints onto smooth watercolor paper. The images may be small, 3-1/4” x 4-1/4”, but they will be creatively expressive. You will learn tips on how to transfer onto other surfaces and how to mount and preserve your artwork. You will leave with finished artwork and a workshop handout with a list of resources and instructions on how to continue practicing this technique at home. Included in the workshop fees are Polaroid 669 film and a bonus lesson on how to make your own faux 35mm slides. home | gallery | about | contact | links All images © 2007 by Angela Silva |
