Press and Media

I am a visual artist and printmaker based in Talisay, Negros Occidental. In my work, I explore identity, memory, time and place to create layers of nuance and meaning. I use mixed-media collage, printmaking and image transfers to convey an “antiquarian sensibility.” My motifs are inspired by found photographs, vintage ephemera, maps, family stories and archival research.

My collages and layered works on paper reveal and conceal stories. Editioning allows me to explore several states of process and experimentation. I make artist books as a structural form to expand a given narrative across time.

I also make cyanotype prints, a form of alternative photography, which produces the characteristic monochromatic blue image on archival quality paper. I use this antique process, which predates the film camera, and not black or white or color, because I want the images to be timeless.  Blue is also the color of the ocean, of distance and longing.
